The Freedom You Can Control

The Freedom You Can Control

I don’t know about you, but that election cycle we just went through was another huge disappointment.

It really got me thinking…

In life there are the things we can control and the things we cannot.

It makes me wonder, where are we spending the bulk of our time?

The Freedom You Can Control

Political freedom seems to get the majority of attention when it comes to the topic of freedom.

And each time I see an election cycle come and go, I feel less and less in control of that political freedom.

I doubt I am alone in that feeling.

It is an important reminder of just how important it is that we focus on the freedoms we can control.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I feel strongly that we need to be involved in public affairs – if we are not, we are sure to lose our freedoms.

But what is even more important, in my opinion, is making freedom in our own lives a much higher priority.

Because at the end of the day, it’s our progress that is going to make real change.

If we want to have meaningful impact inside our families and communities, it starts with how we handle freedom in our own individual lives.

Seek Freedom in Your Own Life

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but here are a few areas I believe should be our primary focus around individual freedom.

Financial Freedom:

This is an area where far too many of us are enslaved.

To gain more financial freedom, we should be focusing on: getting rid of excess debt, building our savings, fortifying our income streams, monthly investing.

This area of freedom is getting more and more difficult with inflation and economic concerns.

Physical Freedom:

Are we physically able to live the lives we want to?

There are many ailments outside of our control- so we must focus on is what we can control.

To gain more freedom in this area, we should be focusing on: eating healthy foods, daily exercise and movement, building muscle.

Every pressure imaginable is being used to weaken this area and it is stealing our freedom to live the life we desire.

Emotional Freedom:

Over the past two years we have seen emotional distress grow exponentially.

If we are being honest, we have all felt it on some personal level – and it leaves us feeling anything but free.

The pandemic left many people feeling isolated and alone.

I feel like one of the most important things we can do in this area is solidify important relationships around us – don’t isolate yourself.

Do whatever you can to take great care of this area as it has impacts on how we perform in every aspect of life.

Spiritual Freedom:

Just when I feel like the depravity around us has peaked, I read a headline that leaves me stunned.

The rate at which our spirituality as a society is evaporating is shocking.

One of great evils that has been forced on us is the idea that we can dictate truth on our own.

This has left our society confused, conflicted, and divided.

God’s plan is a plan of Freedom – that is His ultimate focus for His children.

If we want to truly find it, we must align ourselves with His will.

This will require us to earnestly seek God and His truths.

While we cannot control all of society, we can do our part to increase our spirituality in our own lives.

Freedom of Time:

Freedom of time is one of the hardest to obtain – and yet in my opinion, the most desirable.

Freedom of times requires the correct structure so we can spend time doing the things we enjoy the most.

We live in a busy world where the fast-paced nature of it leaves us feeling overwhelmed and stressed.

To gain freedom of time, it requires us to take deliberate and strategic action in every area of our lives.

This is a freedom that many of us don’t even recognize we have lost.

Final Thoughts on Freedom

Impact is made when we focus on what we can control.

I believe personal freedom to be the most important focus we can undertake.

Freedom leads to progress, and progress leads us towards happiness.

Take a deep look into your life, and chances are that the areas where you find discontent will also be the areas where freedom is missing.

As you focus on how to get freedom back into that part of your life, I am confident you will see your contentment return!
