We the People is NOT the Government

Hello Patriots,

I have been troubled over the last few weeks as I have reflected on the words from President Biden during his address to congress.

During his address he said, “Our constitution opens with ’We the people’, it’s time to remember that we the people are the government. You and I. Not some force in a distant capital. Not some powerful force that we don’t have control over. It’s us. It’s we the people.”

His quote seems contradictory to me.

The truth is that the government is a powerful force in a distant capital - and one that we must be protected against.

And how many of us actually feel like we are a part of what is going on in DC?

Our constitution was designed to provide balance between us and that government - so that we are in control.

While I do not want to spend this message dissecting the words from his speech, I would like to share a quick thought with you about what “We the People” means to me.

The True Meaning of ‘We the People’

The constitution was designed in a way that control by someone in a “distant capital” would be limited as much as possible.

The 10th amendment is a perfect example of this, it reads:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Why is this important?

When power is given to someone that is removed from your local community, it is very unlikely your interest will be served.

The same can be said on a local level.

When issues are handled in your state capital instead of your city council, your interest may be forgotten.

As we get to the micro level, issues handled inside your own home are more likely to produce the desired result than issues handled by your city council.

The further away decision making gets from those impacted, the more dangerous it becomes.

What “We the People” really means is those who are affected should be making the decisions.

This puts those God given rights back to those who were intended to have them.

Time to Pull Back the Power

We have been trained over the last 12 months to believe that we need the government to take care of us.

We have allowed them to take control that is not guaranteed to them by the constitution.

And why have we done this?

Fear.

The idea that we need them to provide for us is not a new one.

This seed was planted a long time ago - but over the last year it has grown dangerously out of control.

The moment we believe that we as citizens cannot solve these problems ourselves, will be the moment of no return.

We must fight the idea that government and its citizens are the same thing – “We the People” is not the government.

Government is there to guarantee rights that are afforded by the constitution – but that power must be yielded to us as citizens.

Our indifference has incorrectly made them believe that we need them involved in every aspect of our lives.

Conclusion

This country was founded with the individual in mind.

That government must have constraints upon them to help protect its citizens.

The time to take a stand is now.

I have been encouraged by state and local governments who are taking this power back.

They are using the voice of their people to open their states back up.

Many are taking a stand.

It’s time for us to do the same.

How do we do it?

Build our families.

Build our communities.

Build our states.

Focus where we have the most impact and work out from there.

I believe strongly in the individual and the family unit.

If we can focus there and move outward, I believe we can accomplish amazing progress.

I believe in you and I, and that we are the true “We the People” that the preamble to the constitution is referencing.
